INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW

'Nerve', when a network becomes prison

Dave Franco talks about his role in this film, based on the 'best seller' youth of the same name.
After his comeback in the saga Illusionists, Dave Franco stars  'Nerve, a game without rules ", the film adaptation of the best seller youth of the same name which is already in  cartel-, written by Jeanne Ryan. This time, the younger brother of James Franco ( '127 hours') plays Ian, the sidekick of Vee, a young woman who is part of a virtual game called Nerve.

'Nerve' is touted as a social network in which some pay to see and others are tested to make money and fame, but with the passage of minutes is turning into a frenzied competition, where he loses or retires life is at stake.

The Californian actor, 31, spoke about this film, directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the filmmakers of the documentary 'Catfish' (2010) and two parts of the series 'paranormal activity'.

Do you as foolhardy as Ian, the character you plays?

I'm the opposite. I am very boring lately: weekends do not go and stay with my cats. I do not remember the last time I went to a disco. I think the last time I did something different was driving a motorcycle and I did for this film. It was not clever, because I only had two weeks to learn. Also, I had to do it in the streets of New York, one of the most dangerous places to ride a motorcycle, without I had to do with Emma (Roberts) in the back seat. Although nothing bad happened, I think I will not do it.

In real life would be a player or an observer?

Perhaps none, because I don`t use social networks. The reason why I'm not in them is because there are many people who feel comfortable being evil while hiding behind their computers.

What else the script caught his attention?

Ian was a character who was unable to interpret. I have done many comedies and this film is much more serious. The directors were also a big draw for me: I loved 'Catfish'. And when I shot this I felt could not have done a better job. You could say that the main audience of this film are young adults, but I think it goes far beyond that, I think even the elderly can enjoy it.

Have you seen or been through a similar situation the film?

No, but what I love about this movie is that this game could happen, not like some youth films 'dystopian', that are far from reality. It is easy to identify with this film and it's scary to think that someday create a game like this.

Have you ever has ventured into the dark side of the Internet?

I would not know how. I'm not well versed in these things. And I'm very paranoid about clicking on any link, because you do not know where it may lead. I am a very private person, and I would not want to lose that by clicking something wrong. But when it comes to cat videos on YouTube, I never stroke a limit.
His brother James is a great artist; besides acting, painting, and his other brother is a sculptor. What you also likes another branch of art?

I have written longer than I've been acting. At school I started with poetry and then wrote scripts for short, for sites like FunnyorDie.com. I started making films just to gain experience, and there were some that embarrassed me. I reached a point where I said, "I need to take care of this seriously," so I started making these short films, which were much more loyal to what I am, and that was satisfactory. Trust me: thanks to them I managed the paper to '21 Jump Street '.
'I'm a big nerd film'

What kind of movies do you like to watch?

I watch a little of everything. I've been a big nerd movie since I was 13 years old. My first job was at a video rental store, so practically paid me to see a lot of movies every day. That was how I began to love the movies and to learn about the classics. I do not have a favorite genre. What I like to do is go to the cinema midweek ArcLight (US chain of cinemas), at noon, and disconnect from everything for a while.
What actors or directors you want to work?
He would die to work with Wes Anderson ( "The Grand Budapest Hotel '), Paul Thomas Anderson (" There Will Be Blood'), David Fincher ( 'Seven'), Spike Jonze ( "Being John Malkovich Want? ').
And about actors, I love the work of Joaquin Phoenix, Christian Bale and Stanley Tucci, people you never know what their next performance. As for women, I love Cate Blanchett, Emma Stone is wonderful and Emily Blunt was amazing in 'Sicario'.
